GCM Racing 6mm Metallic Friction Clutch Conversion.

Based on the popular Jato and Revo slipper clutch modifications, GCM has assembled a complete friction-pad rebuildable clutch specifically for 6mm shaft applications, such as the rugged E-Savage. This kit includes all needed parts and instructions and contains unique GCM machined parts to make this conversion a direct fit with HPI's E-Savage and many other vehicles, including brushless conversions.

Each Clutch Kit will include a 66t spur, a 70t spur, drive pin, disc plate, friction disc, friction pads, pressure plate, plate bearing, washer and lock nut, and new screws for mounting spurs.

Based on the familiar Traxxas Jato clutch, this simple bolt on slipper clutch replacement will allow you to use a large variety of spur gears now available. The recommended spur gears for the E-Savage are the 66 tooth, a stock replacement, and the 70 tooth, which allows the use of larger tires and heavy duty setups. Have a look at the assembly pictures below and see for yourself how easy this conversion really is:

Tear down your slipper clutch and get to the bare shaft. Add the new drive pin.

Clutch001 Clutch002

Install the GCM-machined flywheel and friction ring, aligning small tabs.

Clutch004 Clutch005

Install friction pads on the pressure plate as shown.

Clutch006

Install the GCM pressure plate bearing with the small diameter INTO the plate, and the larger side out.

Clutch007 Clutch008

Screw down your new 66t or 70t spur gear to the pressure plate, aligning the spur over the bearing. Slide the assembly onto the transmission shaft.

Clutch009 Clutch010

Place the stock E-Savage clutch spring on the shaft against the new bearing, followed by the washer and then the locknut. Tighten all the way down snug, and release one full turn. This is a good place to start with your slipper adjustment. If this setting is slipping in your truck, tighten the nut in eighth turn increments until you have limited slip for several feet when accelerating from a stop on pavement or carpet.

Summary:

With the numerous upgrades available for the E-Savage and the importance of a well set up slipper clutch, we agree that this is a simple and effective upgrade that allows long life, easy tuning, and easy rebuilding. Clutch conversion kits and spur gears are available on the shopping page.
